I can send using DNN Core Newsletter functionality.

I can send to just the Administrators group (1 e-mail address same as sender).

If I include a subscriber or enter any other e-mail address I get the bulk confirmation but not the e-mail.

I am running 04.04.01 and when I checked the site log I found the following exception.

System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Bad sequence of commands. The server response was: This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address. Please check your mail client settings or contact your administrator to verify that the domain or address is defined for this server. at System.Net.Mail.RecipientCommand.CheckResponse(SmtpStatusCode statusCode, String response) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail(MailAddress sender, MailAddressCollection recipients, String deliveryNotify, SmtpFailedRecipientException& exception) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) at DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendMail(String MailFrom, String MailTo, String Cc, String Bcc, MailPriority Priority, String Subject, MailFormat BodyFormat, Encoding BodyEncoding, String Body, String Attachment, String SMTPServer, String SMTPAuthentication, String SMTPUsername, String SMTPPassword, Boolean SMTPEnableSSL)

If that were correct why would the DNN Core Newsletter work? Is this maybe related to a setting I am missing with the module?

For those interested, this was a hosting company configuration which allowed for sending SMTP via DNN without external authentication.

I got exactly the same problem so could you please explain in greater detail precisely what the resolution to the problem was.

Thanks

Certainly, now my solution may not be the same for you, but it was because my hosting provider (PowerDNN) is setup to work this way. Hope this helps.

Login as Host and change your SMTP Server settings to the following
SMTP Server = 127.0.0.1
Authentication = Anonymous
SMTP Username = blank as in no value
SMTP Password = blank as in no value

Once I did this, I was able to send with no problems.
